“4” (Fantasia Soliloquisimo)
Released: May 21, 2020

This is a piano piece I started writing back in the 1990's, finally completed after 20 years. The subtitle “Fantasia Soliloquisimo” is both genuine and sarcastic. Genuine, in that this piece is mostly written as a Fantasy: not adhering to any specific form or style. Soliloquisimo, while not an actual word, is (in my mind) the perfect description of how the music should be interpreted “as a Soliloquy”. Of course one might consider any solo work to be the musical equivalent of a soliloquy; however the difference here is that I mean “Soliloquy” more literally, as speech rather than music. The piece is and should be presented more as a rant-like speech rather than a dance, or exploration of musical form (though to some degree it is). The sarcasm is found in the complete ostentatiousness of giving the piece such a subtitle, and perhaps in giving it so much attention.
